Dr Richard Harbury is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with special interests in lower limb surgery, including sports knee injuries, knee replacement surgery and hip replacement surgery. He undertakes both primary and revision joint replacement procedures.
Richard undertook 14 years of training to qualify as an orthopaedic surgeon and further training to specialise in his area of expertise.
Richard also undertakes continuous professional development activities under the auspices of the Australian Orthopaedic Association/Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. This is to ensure that his knowledge and skills remain at the cutting edge of orthopaedic knowledge.
Dr Richard Harbury remains involved in the specialist teaching of orthopaedic registrars at Maitland Public Hospital.
Dr Harbury commenced his medical training at University of Dundee, 1989 – 1994. Then after working as a junior doctor in England and Scotland he undertook and passed at the first available opportunity his surgical examinations to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (1998). Upon migrating to Australia Richard sat the Australian Medical Council (AMC) examinations for overseas trained doctors before applying for higher surgical training in orthopaedics in Newcastle, NSW. He was appointed to higher surgical training in 2000 and following a period of continuous examination and appraisal finished his final specialist examinations in 2004. Dr Harbury then undertook further training in the specialty of joint replacement of the hip and knee plus sports medicine and ligamentous reconstruction of the knee in Sydney 2004 – 2005.
